Kombucha Bacterial Cellulose (KBC) is a living material grown through the quiet labour of microbes and time. Born from the fermentation of tea and sugar, it emerges layer by layer, shaped by care, warmth, and symbiosis. As Part of Design Intelligence and Made/Trans groups, KBC have been carrying traces of hands, environments, and intentions in different projects. In different projects, it is harvested and dried, and transforms flexible, translucent, and biodegradable. More than just a surface or byproduct, it can be an alternative to extractive materials, inviting new ways of thinking, making, and coexisting. KBC usually embodies a story of interspecies collaboration and a proposal for a more regenerative material world, more-than-human fabricated.
